Steve Willingham is an experienced Systems Engineer and has been a key team leader on a wide variety of government projects for satellite communications, civil aviation, manned space flight (including the ISS), and commercial venues including insurance, financial services, medical technology, and accounting. At DaVinci’s Faire & BarCamp, he’ll be talking about “Community Driven Innovation.”
Many organizations or projects are started by people with great ideas. Chances of successful implementation can be significantly improved through active engagement of the community affected by the organization, the project, or the idea. Some innovators may naturally be in tune and in-sync with their community, but others may need to get a grip, relax an ego, and open their minds. In this short discussion, Steve will present the high level concept of Community Driven Innovation, the benefits, challenges and some strategies.
Steve’s company, Eureka! Factory (EurekaFactory.NET), has developed a strong connection with the community of makers and innovative developers in the Tampa Bay area. He designed the original space plan for The Hive, a 10,000 sq. ft. public community innovation center at the John F. Germany Library in downtown Tampa which opened in the fall of 2014. The delivery of the plan included the advice of listening to the community and adapting the space to their creative needs as their needs shift and change over time.
