G.WIZ Science Museum – The Gateway for Lifelong Adventures in Science
G.WIZ – Gulfcoast Wonder & Imagination Zone – began as the Gulf Coast World of Science (GCWS) in December 1990. In October 1991, the GCWS opened to the public with only 1,000 square feet and just ten hands-on exhibits. GCWS was soon granted membership in the Association of Science & Technology Centers (ASTC) and ten months later GCWS expanded to 6,000 feet.
In May 1993, recognizing the educational and cultural value the science center added to the community, the Sarasota City Commission voted to provide GCWS with a new permanent home, the former Selby Library building. In December 1997, the city commission reconfirmed its commitment to provide the bay front facility to the science center and a 20-year lease for the building was signed in January 1998. With the lease secured, the board implemented plans for the move to the new facility.
The Board worked with Hands-On, a nationally recognized museum planning company, to create a fresh image for the evolving science center. In May 1998 the Hands-on Science and Technology Center was reborn. With a name change to the Gulfcoast Wonder & Imagination Zone, “G.WIZ” moved into the newly renovated site in June of 2000 and proudly opened its doors to the public on August 26th, 2000. The $3.5 million 33,000 sq. ft. facility located downtown on Sarasota’s bay front was the perfect place for GCWS to be transformed into a world-class science and technology center.

Founder Walt Augustinowicz of Englewood, Fl began the company in an effort to protect himself from an announced national ID card with a RFID chip loaded with personal information.
Augustinowicz knew that RFID chips could be queried by any reader capable of reading the card, and that eventually those readers would fall into the wrong hands.

Information Visualization and Innovative Research (IVIR Inc.) is a Sarasota-based small, veteran, women owned business dedicated to the research, design, and implementation of visualization technologies for medical education.

YellowMan was born April 19, 2011 in sunny Sarasota, Fl. He was a creative fun loving kid and grew up very fast.
Like Steve Jobs, he decided to skip college, become an American entrepreneur and learn everything he could on the World Wide Web. He became a diehard techie and was always smiling.
By his 30th birthday, May 19, 2011 he got back from his first world tour and morphed into a QR machine. He became possessed. Now you see him everywhere. Smiling and waving and spreading the word of QRism.
By his 60th birthday, June 19, 2011 he enrolled his YellowMan Army to launch YMQR in 20 American cities. Since he was a quick study, he visited several university towns around the country, sharing his QR message. As he was Pub Crawling one night, he noticed everyone had a SmartPhone. YellowMan remembered this auspicious event.
On his 90th birthday, July 19, 2011 he discovered that people we’re hooked on “Coupons”, a new American epidemic. So he called his Adam Mason, CEO of Groupon, a 35 month old startup that turned down a $6 Billon dollar offer from Google. Adam advised YellowMan to jump into the coupon game, since SmartPhones seemed to be a popular new novelty.
On his 120th birthday, August 19, 2011 YellowMan created the first FREE paperless restaurant coupon, providing them to millions of hungry cheapskates, like college kids with SmartPhones. Just seemed like a natural. I can see it now, a YellowMan Wave in at every college game.
On his 150th birthday, September 19, 2011 YellowMan was invited to a BarCamp Sarasota luncheon. He immediately became friends with a new group of Smarties (they had SmartPhones). YellowMan kept smiling until they invited him to their BarCamp Sarasota 2011 Extravaganza. What a concept!
Right now YellowMan is enrolling millions of other Smarties to rush this International Hoopla. Hope to see you there.
